Description

The General Service badge shows a Rising Sun, Anchor, Wings, and King’s Crown, with the wording ‘Service / Australia’. The reverse is cast with the manufacturer’s name, year of manufacture (1948), and “ISSUED BY C’WLTH GOVT,” and is impressed with the serial number A4023

 

History

The General Service Badge was issued to persons who served full-time for 28 days or more, continuously or in the aggregate, and discharged without becoming eligible for the Returned from Active Service Badge during World War II. Persons discharged because of misconduct and those in a reserved occupation were not eligible for the badge. The badge was also available to approved representatives of philanthropic bodies, Official Press Correspondents, and Official Photographers who met the qualifying criteria.
